USCIS Offices in the Hudson Valley

Immigration Services and Interviews

Sometimes it’s necessary to visit one’s local USCIS office, either for an interview or to receive some other kind of service. Applications for naturalization, for example, always require an interview. Other case types that may require an interview include adjustment of status (applying for a green card), as well as emergency Infopass appointments for advance parole (a travel permit) or an ADIT stamp.

Immigrants in the Hudson Valley will generally need to visit either their local USCIS office in Albany, or New York City.

USCIS Albany

Generally, residents of Ulster County, Orange County, Dutchess County, and Putnam County will belong to the jurisdiction of the USCIS location in Albany, NY. The address is 500 New Karner Rd, 3rd Floor, Albany, NY 12205.

If traveling by car, there is ample parking in the parking lot adjacent to the building. If traveling by public transportation, take the Empire Service train north to Albany-Rensselaer station. From there, a combination of walking and buses can drop you near USCIS, but it’s probably best to take a taxi or Uber.

USCIS Albany officers are generally organized, professional, and competent. At your interview or Infopass appointment, you have the right to an attorney.

USCIS New York City

Residents of Rockland County and Westchester County will generally need to travel to New York City for USCIS matters. USCIS is located in the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building, located at 26 Federal Plaza, New York, NY 10278 in downtown Manhattan. USCIS in New York City spans multiple floors – check your interview notice for which floor you should visit. Be prepared for very long lines outside the building.

Most people arrive at 26 Federal Plaza by public transportation, since parking nearby is expensive. From east of the Hudson River, take the Metro North Hudson Line south to Grand Central Terminal, then transfer to subway lines 4, 5, or 6 to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station. If traveling from west of the River, take the ShortLine Hudson train south into Manhattan, getting off either at 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal (then the subway via the A/C lines south to Chambers St station), or Lexington Ave & East 125th St station (followed by subway lines 4/5/6 south to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station).

Visiting the NYC USCIS location can be a headache. If arriving for an interview, such as to apply for citizenship, be sure to check in at the window on your designated floor. Expect to wait an hour or more in the waiting room before you are called.
